About the course
West Cornwall Golf Club is proud to be Cornwall’s oldest golf club, the golf club starting life as a nine holer in 1889 with the local vicar setting the ball rolling! The golf club is synonymous with the great Jim Barnes, the first winner of the US PGA Championship in 1916, who was born in Lelant. Barnes first learned to play the game at West Cornwall where he became assistant to Fred Whiting and stayed for four years (1902–06), before leaving for fame and fortune in the United States. Stay & Play: The Pedn-olva Hotel in St Ives and the Badger Inn and The Old Quarry House are both within a mile of the golf course.
