About the course
Fine, mature James Braid layout though no stroll in the park even if it is majestically plotted within the striking Fitzwilliam Estate. It’s highly challenging – this is course that can test every part of your game. Right from the start, you have to hit an accurate tee shot with a three or five wood and then a deadly long iron to get into position for the approach to the green. It’s tricky par 5. The par 3s are all superb and the back nine is particularly good. The 10th is a classic par 4 and anyone reachinf rhe green in two has done very well. There’s a huge dip in front of the putting surface and you need to get your ball in the right part of the green to stand a chance of a two-putt. Then, it just keeps throwing great holes at you. The 18th is a great finish with water to the right and a bunker stretching across the fairway. The course is definitely worth playing…
Peterborough Milton Golf Club has a fine, well-established par 71 parkland golf course set in the grounds of the Fitzwilliam Estate, with many of the holes being played in full view of Milton Hall. Originally a nine-hole golf course within the grounds and used by the 6th Earl of Fitzwilliam for family and friends, an 18 hole golf course, designed by James Braid, was opened in June 1938 to avoid urban development. The original thatched clubhouse still stands, looking up the 13th/14th fairways. All the holes offer differing challenges and require accurate tee shots to avoid fairway bunkers and trees. Shots on the way to inviting greens have greenside bunkers to negotiate which add to the challenging and enjoyable experience of playing the course whatever the season. A 10 acre driving range and practice ground runs parallel with the first fairway and a relaxing clubhouse provides a back drop to the 18th green offering full facilities following the round.
